I really like hand sewing so I'm bringing an applique project along to meet my new grandson.

can't wait to meet the little squirt. This is what my sewing table looked like this morning as I was getting ready.

this is just the beginning...there will be color between the squares and there will be more squares and a border. I'm waiting for more of the background fabric to arrive---which will be after I leave tomorrow :(

Finished

Last night I put the final stitches in my Dresden Plate quilt. I'm rather smitten with it.

I machine (long arm) quilted the back ground and hand stitched the petals with pearl cotton.

They "white" background is really 2 kinds of white and light blue polka dots. The binding is bright red polka dots. I'm loving this and think I'll put it in out guild quilt show next spring.

A middle of the night phone call

announced the arrival of little mister Oliver Fox. 8.2 pounds all are well and happy and now I'm a Nana,Noni, Oma, Umi but a new name indeed!

here he's 9 minutes old!

He's already cast a spell over his mother and father and the new aunts, uncles and grandparents are all quite smitten. Ya' did a good Job here Sarah & Gabe!!!

Our first BIG storm

It rained buckets and I spent a most enjoyable afternoon quilting with the gals at our guild drop in. Always a pleasure to be surrounded by such nice and talented women--especially as it POURED outside. It was a perfect soup day.

I've been working on this:

 

I long arm quilted the background and the border and now I'm hamd quilting  (with Pearl cotton) the petals of the plates.  My plates were so flat I was proud of them and then they became puffy after the background got quilted. I'm relieved to say that the petal quilt is flattening them right out.

This went in the mail yesterday so I can show it now as it should arrive today. My sister and husband share a birthday and since it's coming right up and I hadn't heard of plans I figured I'd better mail it....of course, this morning we got a call with detail!

 

It's really hard when your little sister marks a BIG milestone...it make me feel that much older :D

It's an Autumn quilt for and Autumn birthday...

WIP

My Dresden plates are really coming together.

I just love it when an idea strikes me and I just go with it and the art just flows...

This quilt began with me trying something new. I thought I'd make one plate and then perhaps a pillow. Then the fabrics chose them selves and one became another and another...then the little ones...most of these fabrics are from American Jane by designer Sandy Klop

I'm lovin' this and as I stitch on the little plates I'll be thinking of a border.
